How the Color Change Reminder Works
The Color Change Reminder works in 4 steps.
- 1
List the color sequence
Write each color with its row range in the notes box, for example "Rows 1–4 Navy / 5–6 Cream / 7–10 Rust".
- 2
Set the next change row
Enter the last row of the current color, such as 4, into Target Goal.
- 3
Count rows
Tap + Count after each finished row.
- 4
Change on the final yarn over
When the count reaches the target, finish the last stitch of that row with the new color. Then set the next change row as the target.
Color Change Reminder Formula
The Color Change Reminder formula finds the row where each stripe ends and the next color begins.
Change row k = k × Stripe height
Color on row r = Color list[⌊(r − 1) ÷ Stripe height⌋ mod Number of colors]
- k
- The number of the stripe just finished
- Stripe height
- Rows in one stripe
- Number of colors
- Colors in the repeating list
Worked example: Stripes of 4 rows in 3 colors (Navy, Cream, Rust): the 3rd change happens at the end of Row 3 × 4 = 12. Row 14 uses color index ⌊13 ÷ 4⌋ mod 3 = 0, so Navy.

The Color Change Reminder conversion table lists the rows that end each stripe for 4 stripe heights.

| 2 | 4 | 6 | 8 | 12 |

What is a Color Change Reminder?
A color change reminder is a tool that tells you the next yarn color and the stitch, row or round where it starts. The Crochet Stitch Counter Color Change Reminder keeps stripe and colorwork changes on schedule.
A clean color change in crochet happens on the last yarn over (yo) of the stitch before the new color. Working the final yo with the new yarn makes the next stitch appear fully in the new color. A reminder placed 1 stitch early gives you time to pick up the new yarn.
Stripe blankets, temperature blankets and striped hats all depend on changes at exact rows. The reminder lists each change point and the color that follows.
